ROSES FOR CHILDREN IN THE MEDIA

The Monument for the Unknown Child consists of a circle of life, in the form of a medicine wheel, as used in various cultures all over the world as a symbol for wholeness. The purpose of a medicine wheel is to restore the world’s harmony. Everything is connected to everything else, and influences everything else. The wheel incorporates the four elements, the four winds, the four daily rhythms and the four seasons.
The monument took the Native American world view as its point of departure, and 36 stones have been placed. The stones are laid out in a specific pattern, with each stone having a symbolic meaning. In the heart of this circle of life lies the ROSE, a work of art by the artist Cobi van de Kuit. In its entirety, the monument evokes stillness. The stillness within one’s very core, thinking about the unknown child.
Who knows how many children will clamber over these stones? How many will play there? How many can lead the child’s life we would want all children to lead?
